About Dr. Jonathan Tiemann, founder of Tiemann Investment Advisors, LLC
Jonathan Tiemann, TIA’s founder, president and chief investment “guru,” has 30 years of investment experience, which include nearly a decade in academia and now more than twenty years managing money and designing investment services. He earned his B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Yale University, an M.S. in Operations Research from Stanford University, and his Ph.D. in Finance from Yale University.
Dr. Tiemann taught Finance at Harvard Business School for five years before leaving academia for Barclays Global Investors (formerly Wells Fargo Nikko Investment Advisors and currently Blackrock), where he became Chief Investment Strategist, responsible for nearly $200 billion in institutional assets. Dr. Tiemann has also served as President and Chief Investment Officer of BARRA RogersCasey Asset Services, and as Chief Investment Officer for AdvisorTech Corporation.
From 2001 to 2011, Dr. Tiemann served as Chief Investment Strategist and head of the Investment Committee for the MyVest Corporation. He served as an Investment Committee Member for the Savant Group from 2008 through 2013 and he is currently serving on the Investment Committee for Theatreworks. Dr. Tiemann is considered a leading designer and developer of innovative techniques for customized portfolio management for individuals and organizations. Dr. Tiemann has spoken and written extensively in the area of investment management, and served on the Economic Advisory Board of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA, formerly, the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) from 2005 through 2010, an organization that regulates broker-dealers). He is presently serving on a Working Group committee developing proposed language for the Accredited Investor rules, governing unregistered securities offerings. Managed nearly $200 billion in institutional funds at Barclay’s Global Investors. President and Chief Investment Officer of BARRA RogersCasey Asset Services, and served as Chief Investment Officer for AdvisorTech Corporation. Founded Tiemann Investment Advisors in 2002.
Formerly founder and president of Stocklin Capital Management, which he ran for more than a dozen years, prior to merging with TIA in 2012 and subsequently serving as a Managing Director. Mr. Stocklin has an engineering degree and also earned his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and his CIC (Chartered Investment Counsellor) designations.
B.S. Business Administration, University of California at Los Angeles, M.B.A. Stanford University, Graduate School of Business. Managing Member, Thomas & Atkinson Capital Management LLC, (formerly known as Thomas Capital Management LLC), Menlo Park, California from December 2003 through to August, 2015. Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Seton Smoke Capital Management, from 1994 to 2003. Stan joined TIA as a Managing Director in September 2015.
B.A. English, Colgate University, M.B.A. Yale School of Management, J.D. Northeastern University School of Law. Co-founder, CFO and General Counsel of Willow Peripherals (1987-1992) and CFO and General Counsel of WebTV Networks Inc. (1995 through its acquisition by Microsoft in 1997), VP Finance, Microsoft. Co-founded Tiemann Investment Advisors, LLC in 2002.
Ms. Anderson served as Atherton Town Arborist and a senior Staff Member for many years, where she partnered with Ms. Gardner in organizing a number of community environmental events and brought a can-do attitude to all her endeavors. She joined TIA in January, 2012 where her vast administrative expertise, event planning and general office management skills keep the office running smoothly.
Ms. Tiemann, a 2017 graduate of Menlo-Atherton High School, joined Tiemann Investment Advisors as a summer associate from approximately July through August, prior to matriculating at University of California at Berkeley. Ms. Tiemann assisted with analysis, research and assisted with the development of the Einstein Fund, a special project to compile an alternative energy portfolio in nuclear power.
